Achieving a fantastic 5th place overall in the Handicap Fleet (mixed ages) which resulted in this 1st position. 12 races for the week were scheduled which started with some challenging wind conditions at Hunstanton and Kings Lynn these died to nothing when Wells and Brancaster had to be postponed picking up at the end of the week for Blakeney and many decided not to sail for the last races at Snettisham as the water was really choppy.

Adam’s success was promoted at school and this resulted in a nice piece  in the local Beds Times and Citizen too. See:  http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/173515/Emberton-Park-youth-sailor-wins

At club level Adam sails against both adults & juniors in handicap fleet. Hi achievements this year:
1st Fleet Trophy (Lasers)

Adam has a good rapour with the adults and is very encouraging to the new and younger members of the club both on and off the water.

Bucks Youth Sailing.- Sam Brister & Matthew Brushwood

Mathew Brushwood_Sam Brister_SAOTM_Oct 13

These two boys were entered in the Schools National Championship Sailing on the sea at Weymouth – the same course as the Olympics were to use 2 weeks later.

On the Wednesday a knockout race is held between the 26 Counties, competing with 2  members from each club being nominated. They had to sail in heats in Topper Xenon, a 2 man boat and they do not normally sail together. The conditions on the sea that day were rough and testing. The boys competed in all the knockout races to qualify for the final. They had to swap boats throughout the event, not using the same boat each time as there were only 4 dinghies available for all the competitors. The final races consisted of the top four teams with Matt and Sam outright winners and bringing home the massive trophy.

It was a huge achievement considering they do not normally sail together or on the sea in such conditions

Ladies Manager John Dyer had nothing but kind words to say about Lil and wished her the best of luck with the Leicestershire side.

Speaking to mkdons.com, he said: “Lil is an exceptional talent and everyone is sad to see her go. She was very much part of my plans for the future and our own push for higher level football.

“Saying that, when a team from a higher division comes in for young players such as Lil, I can completely understand her decision to go on and make a name for herself.

“I wish her the best of luck and we will hopefully see her in an International shirt in the future.

The door will always be open to her to come back, however, if the move doesn’t work out.”

Lil’s departure and with a number of key players absent through injury, the Ladies have decided to open their doors to new female players to join their ranks and will be holding open training sessions on the first Tuesday of every month.

Over 60 crews were forced to retire from one of the worlds toughest canoe races.

Their attempt started at Devises, Wiltshire at 8:48am on Sat 7th April. Despite the gruelling task ahead they equalled their best time to Newbury and consistently paddled ahead of their forecast schedule. They overtook their last opposition at Maidenhead and raced the last 50 miles from the front never being caught by the faster kayaks behind them.

Richard Parrott 45 is a director of a MK based Property Investment Company, Secklow Properties, and started canoeing 18 months ago after nearly 20 years racing Dragon Boats to International level. Richard is aiming for selection for the GB Squad for the Outrigger World Championships in Canada in August. Matt Short 29 works in London as an event organizer for a Blood Cancer Charity and only started canoeing a year ago after supporting a friend on 2011 Devizes to Westminster Race. Matt is also now seeking selection for the Great Britain Dragon Boat Team to compete at the European Championship in Nottingham in August.

Richard and his Out-Rigger Canoe Team were asked to consider the Mayor’s Challenge to cross the English Channel April 2013
His reply.-
We have our own boat which is fine for such a crossing as her parent boat did race the Channel 18 years ago. However your right, every craft doing the short crossing must have a pilot escort and being the end of April we don’t have enough time to manage the logistics of getting a pilot, 2 training camps and raising the cash to pay for it, all in a year when we are taking on the Allwave Cup in Italy, the Round Liberty Island Race New York, The Porquerollaise Toulon (65km) and The Queen Lill’uokailani (36miles) in Hawaii and a couple of our paddlers are also planning to take on the Moloki it is perhaps a step to far.

I myself am away during the Channel build up period racing solo across the Pailolo Channel (26 miles) so whilst the crew is generally up to scratch we have not started our ocean paddling yet this year with the 1st trip not planned for a couple of weeks. We would want at least 4 days on the sea to sharpen up our skill set before taking on a crossing.
It would have been really good fun to take on such a challenge with the rowing club. Perhaps if the taste of the sea becomes an aquired one we can do the 2014 Eddystone Challenge (we missed it last year as the sea was gusting force 7 in plymouth. This year the Milford Haven Marathon Row is on 22 June and we do hope to make that one with those not heading to New York. If you wanted to organise a joint trip that could be fun and we can see which is 1st to Haverfordwest – Canoe or Rowing Boat
We do wish you all the best with the crossing and with a number of friends who have raced the Channel we know it is an experience not to be missed and are very jealous. Do let us know if you have any other adventures planned.
All our best and let us know how it goes.
